Thai yarn still competitive in global market

BANGKOK, Oct 29 -- Despite a decline in the export value of Thai-produced yarns last year due to the strong baht against the US dollar, Thai yarns remain competitive in the world market , including in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a senior Commerce Ministry official said on Monday. Honda to move piston rod manufacturing base to Thailand
BANGKOK, Dec 20 - Japanese automaker Honda plans to move its piston rod manufacturing base to Thailand next year, according to Tatsuhiro Oyama, President & CEO of Asian Honda Motor Co Ltd. Mr. Oyama disclosed that the company will relocate its piston rod manufacturing base to the kingdom in mid-2007, with an investment of over Bt1.1 billion (US$30.8 million). Thai steel demand likely to resume growth next year
BANGKOK, Dec 18 - Thailand's steel demand is expected to grow by 7-8 per cent to around 13-14 million tonnes next year following sluggishness this year, according to the Kasikorn Research Centre. The leading think tank said the global steel market had fluctuated heavily in the past few years with product prices moving sharply up and down during 2004-2005 due to an imbalance in the demand and supply. Floods and violence hits vehicle sales

Bangkok, Dec 15: Vehicle sales in Thailand fell by 9.9 percent in November year-on-year to 57,800 units due to sluggish consumer sentiment amid rising violence in the South, Toyota Motor Thailand said Friday. Despite falling oil prices, car sales also declined due to prolonged severe flooding, which affected nearly 60 per cent of the country's 76 provinces, Toyota said. Government to speed up knowledge-based master plan
BANGKOK, Nov 25 - The Industry Ministry will coordinate an inter-agency exercise to draft a master plan for Thailand's knowledge-based industrial development. The blueprint should be ready by June 2007, which will allow for budget allocation to start in 2008. The plan was announced following a meeting on Friday chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Industry Minister Kosit Panpiemras. Mazda plans plants in Thailand, N. America

Bangkok, Nov 24: Mazda Motor Corp. is reportedly planning to invest more than 50 billion yen to setup a manufacturing plant in Thailand in collaboration with Ford Motor.
