BANGKOK, Oct 1 – The SME confidence index increased in August since the political and economic situation has improved, according to the Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Promotion Office.
Chitraporn Taechacharn, the office’s director general, said the index rose to 43.8 from 41.8 in July with all categories ranging from the wholesale, retail, and service sectors edging up to 43.7, 41.9, and 45.8 from 41.4, 41.7, 42.1, respectively.
The SME confidence indexes on the country’s economic conditions and own businesses increased to 32.3 and 40.9 from 24.8 and 35.3 in July respectively.
"The SME index in August edges up mainly because the political situation has improved and state measures to stimulate the economy produce a fruitful result.
Consumer confidence in the economy has increased as could be witnessed by more consumption of products and services. It results in total sales and profits of entrepreneurs climbing up," she said.
The SME confidence index in three months ahead also rose to 46.4 from 44.7 with all categories ranging from the wholesale, retail, and service sectors increasing 46.1, 45.9, 47.1 from 44.2, 44.2, and 45.3 in July in a row.
The confidence in tourism and related businesses, and farm product and vehicle trades is found to increase at a hefty level.
However, the confidence indexes on all categories remained below 50, showing that although the entrepreneurs’ confidence in business performance in the future increased, it was still at a low level, she said.
