Commerce ministry moots anti-megamart expansion measures

BANGKOK, Oct 2 - Thailand's Department of Internal Trade of the Ministry of Commerce is set to propose measures against the expansion of hypermarket chains to the country's Business Competition Board on Tuesday.
Internal Trade Department director-general Siripol Yodmuangcharoen said he expected an endorsement from the Board, paving the way for measures to create a "level playing field" to be implemented in the retailing sector.

I think Govt has to take some initiative to protect small shops from Supermarket, who pay minimal wages to staff and pocket all profit. If we look at developed countries, it is very common to protect local economy. Govt should protect small shops and let big business houses concentrate on High-tech businesses where they can use their deep pockets and contribute to economy.
