BANGKOK, Jan 3 - Security is being stepped up at bus terminals, skytrain and subway stations as well as Suvarnabhumi international airport, following the New Year's Eve bombings in the capital city which killed three people and injured more than 30 others.

Transport Minister Admiral Thira Haocharoen said the cabinet had instructed the authorities concerned to step up security measures at and around such public places for fear of repeated violence as the New Year holiday has ended and large numbers of people are returning to the capital from the provinces.

Soldiers and police, uniformed and plainclothes, are combing bus terminals, Skytrain and subway stations as well as the international airport for any suspicious-looking persons.

As part of the stepped-up security, the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand will urgently procure and install digital cameras to help monitor possible sabotages at those busy places, the transport minister added. (TNA)
