BANGKOK, Oct 4 - Deputy Transport Minister Sansern Wongcha-um on Thursday revealed he would seek Cabinet approval for a master plan on the logistic system network development within two weeks after the Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning Office reached a conclusion on investment figures.

Delivering a keynote speech at a seminar on "Logistics Asia 2007: Go Regional," held by the Thai Chamber of Commerce, he reiterated Thailand needs to complete the development of logistics in each region first if it wants to develop transport routes linking neighbouring countries to benefit the economy.

He said the ministry would propose the master plan on logistic system network development to the Cabinet for its consideration and approval in the next two weeks so that the plan should be used as a framework by the next government and state agencies concerned to pursue.

Many key logistics projects, including the construction of dual track railways linking border provinces, and development of product distribution centres would get off the ground and take many years to complete after the master plan is approved, he said.

The projects, if successfully implemented, would contribute greatly to the development of the country's logistics system, he said.
