Bangkok, Feb 3: Thai government officials have assured Singapore's Foreign Ministry that Thai authorities will step up security measures for the upcoming ASEAN Football Championship Final in Bangkok on Sunday.

This is to ensure the security and safety of Singapore fans at the match.

The message was conveyed by the Thai ambassador to Singapore, Mr Chalermpol Thanchitt.

The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok are also working closely with their Thai counterparts and the Bangkok police on reinforcing security measures for the Singapore players and supporters at the stadium.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman calls on Singaporeans travelling to Bangkok this weekend for the match to stay together in groups as far as possible and to keep alert and calm at all times.

Those who are heading up to Bangkok are also advised to register with the Ministry online at www.mfa.gov.sg to enable the Ministry and the Embassy to contact them and render the necessary assistance in the event of an emergency.
