share prices closed flat in sluggish trade, with many fund managers still away on holiday for the New Year break, dealers said.
HSBC fell slightly while other blue chips were rangebound as select China and Macau theme stocks outperformed the market.
The Hang Seng Index closed up 7.28 points at 14,237.42, off a low of 14,150.02 and high of 14,267.21, on turnover of HK$13.6 billion (US$1.74 billion). The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index was up 22.15 points or 0.47 percent at 4,763.47.
