BANGKOK, Dec 21 - Thailand's information technology market is expected to grow 17 per cent next year as small- and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) are counting more on IT services, according to a leading industry executive.
IDC Research (Thailand) Co. manager Jeffrey Sae Ueng said that total spending on IT will grow 17 per cent next year, while total sales of computers are likely to increase by 27 per cent compared to this year.
To date 1.5 million computer units have been placed for sale in the market this year, and notebook computers are so popular that total sales have reached 550,000 units.
Given a continued price decline and higher efficiency, he projected that the total sales of notebook computers would continue to expand by 25 per cent next year and 32 per cent in the following year.
Mr. Jeffrey said flat-screen computer monitors had gained increased popularity.
The flat screen market share had currently risen to 75 per cent from 50 per cent since the monitors are cheaper and its function is adaptable to varied tasks and locations.
Next year, he predicted, notebook computers and wireless communication tools will continue to gain popularity among consumers while constraints on desktop computers would still be a hindrance. (TNA)
