BANGKOK, Dec 2 - Thailand's exports this year are projected to grow and meet the target of 17.5 per cent with total value of US$130.37 billion, according to Commerce Minister Krirkkrai Jirapaet.
Major export products are showing signs of expanding in 2006, he said, adding that food exports are expected to earn US$9.6 billion, up 14.2 per cent from last year, while textiles and garments are expected to earn US$7.504 billion, a rise of 12 per cent.
Jewellery and ornaments will have fetched US$3.88 billion, an increase of 20 per cent, leather products US$1.8 billion, up 15 per cent, furniture and parts US$1.36 billion, a jump of 10 per cent, and house decorative items US$1.18 billion, a rise of 15 per cent, it was announced.
Because of the expected sharp increase in exports, the country is anticipated to earn US$130.37 billion, an increase of 17.5 per cent from last year, and meet the target, Mr Krirkkrai said.
"This year's exports have expanded quickly as they've grown slightly more than the planned target of 17 per cent, Mr Krikkrai said, but the stability of exports remains a problem needing to be solved in order to make our exports to rise on a sustainable basis.
Manufacturers are required to produce goods to meet the world market's demands," he said. (TNA)
