BANGKOK, Nov 30 - In a sign of strengthening relations with Thailand's Mekong neighbours, the leaders of Laos and Vietnam, will officially visit Bangkok next month as guests of the government, and will attend the opening of a new Mekong bridge at Mukdaharn, an official said Wednesday.

Deputy Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Kiattikhun Chartprasert told reporters that both leaders would witness the inauguration of the second Thai-Lao bridge on December 20. The bridge, which will carry traffic between the northeastern province of Mukdaharn on the Thai side and the Mekong river port of Savannakhet in Laos, is part of the East-West Economic Corridor linking Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

Laotian Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh's official visit falls on December 17-19 while the Vietnamese leader, Nguyen Tan Dung, visits Thailand on December 19-21. This is the first foreign trip for both national leaders since they assumed office earlier this year.(TNA)
